With exactly four weeks until what should have been Flora Day a member of Helston Town Band has recreated the famous song - playing every part himself.

Due to have taken place on Friday, May 8, the world-famous event had to be cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Now Ben Reed has made a composite video bringing together him playing all the different sections, from cornet to tuba and the famous big bass drum.

He has even attempted to recreated the iconic first chime of the Guildhall clock, which signifies the start of each dance on the hour, by using a bell - and there is one him dancing also.

Ben, the son of Helston Methodist minister Danny Reed, has now taken Facebook by storm after he posted his video this afternoon.

He said: "In 28 days' time will be the first Flora I’ve missed, so I’ve created this just for a bit of fun."

Ben has also teased that something could be on the cards for Flora Day fans nearer the time, adding: "Look forward to what Helston Town Band have in store for you, so you can still feel a bit of Flora Day."

The Flora Day Association announced the decision to cancel this year's event on March 17.

At the time the Flora Day Stewards said the decision had not been taken lightly, as a great deal of time and planning has gone into the event, but they felt strongly that the health, safety, and wellbeing of all the dancers, Hal an Tow, Helston Town Band, and the general public must be the top priority.
