A pub near Falmouth has now donated 1,000 meals to NHS staff and frontline workers.

The Golden Lion at Stithians Lake first started making meals for workers to take away towards the end of March.

Now, less than four weeks later, it has reached the milestone figure thanks to the generosity of locals and other supporters, who have been donating money for ingredients.

Landlords Mark and Sarah Sear said: ""We have been really overwhelmed with the response, but especially the support that people are giving.

"The donations to the Go Fund campaign has allowed us to extend this service to carers as well.

"From a silly idea, we have grown and grown, and in some way do our bit towards the fight. Hopefully we have encouraged others to do similar."

As reported last month, the pub - which was voted the Packet's Village Pub of the Year in 2019 - has been making meals daily and leaving them in a fridge at the front of pub through its 'Feeding the Frontline' scheme.

Health and emergency service workers can simply collect a meal or two to take away.

The fridges are stocked and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so they are available whenever workers come off their shift.

They are encouraged to take a few days' supply to reduce the travelling.

Almost £800 has now been donated to cover the cost of the meals, via the online fundraising page gofundme.com/golden-lion-feeding-the-front-line, which remains open for donations.
