Children from across Cornwall have come together to create a virtual recording of the popular song 'Cornwall My Home'.

Organised by the Cornwall Music Education Hub, singers from the Cornwall County Youth Choir, Cornwall Boys Choir and Cornwall Girls Choir have all recorded themselves singing Cornwall My Home and the individual recordings have been compiled into a virtual choir performance of the Harry Glasson song.

The project has been led by the Hub’s Vocal Strategy lead and Director of the County Choirs, Angela Renshaw, with support from vocal leaders, in particular Matt Douglas and Julia Knight-Bennett who have spent hours compiling the video and audio recordings to create the final piece.

The singers started working on the piece during the first week of Lockdown, and were supported through a series of online choir rehearsals and teaching videos. The final virtual choir recording features the children of the County Choirs aged from 8 to 18 and from all across Cornwall, as well as the choir leaders.

Project leader Angela said: "This brand-new choral arrangement of 'Cornwall My Home' by Matt Douglas, has very much enabled our singers and staff of the Cornwall County Choirs to carry on through Lockdown. We also wanted to try out the concept of singing as a 'Virtual Choir' and the song was an obvious choice for us.

“We have received tremendous help from parents of the singers, all helping at home to enable everything to work correctly and setting up the online meetings. It's been four weeks of community collaboration from our young singers, families and choir staff team – distan-sing at its best!

“We were delighted to have the support of Harry Glasson, the composer of Cornwall My Home, and he has told us that he is delighted with the new arrangement, as well as the quality of the singing and recording. We now hope that people will enjoy listening to this brand-new arrangement of an established Cornish song that has become even more important to us over the past few weeks.”

As a thank you to the NHS for their wonderful work, the County Choirs would like to encourage everyone who enjoys the performance to donate to the Royal Cornwall’s Hospital Charity via their JustGiving page - https://www.justgiving.com/royalcornwallhospitals
