Students from Camborne Science and International Academy (CSIA) have made cards to put smiles on the faces of front-line NHS workers at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

In the last two weeks, students across all year groups made cards with personalised messages in each one, which were then collected and delivered to staff at Treliske.

Mrs Rachel Trevarthen, assistant principal at CSIA, said: “In a time of national crisis, we believe it’s vital to come together to support each other.

"Our NHS workers are absolutely incredible, selfless and inspiring individuals and as a school, we wanted to show our continued gratitude and make them smile.

“It might only be a small gesture, but our cards go a long way in showing how much our students care about our NHS heroes and the amazing work they do every day.”

While closed due to the lockdown, CSIA has also recently donated 70 pairs of safety goggles and more than 500 protective gloves to support both Veor and Trevithick Surgeries in Camborne.

“The community efforts here in Cornwall are just staggering," continued Mrs Trevarthen.

"People are pulling together and doing all they can to support the global fight against coronavirus.

“We’re all very aware of the fact that front-line workers are putting the community before themselves every time they go into work, working long hours in what must be very stressful conditions.

"Our students wanted to say thank you and the messages they’ve written inside the cards are truly heartwarming.”

Angie Moyle, patient flow coordinator at Treliske, who collected the cards, gave half to Grenville Ward and the other half to Wheal Prosper, Treliske’s isolation ward.

“We were told that all the cards were greatly received, and they enjoyed seeing all the lovely colour designs and reading the messages,” added Mrs Trevarthen.
