One Cornish postman is delivering more than just letters and parcels to customers during the coronavirus pandemic - he's supplying smiles as well.

Mullion postie Steven Legg decided he would don a different fancy dress outfit each day, to cheer up children on his rounds.

So far he has dressed as Popeye the Sailor, Superman and Postman Pat, with plenty more to come.

It is just one step on for Steven, who already dresses as an elf at Christmas for his rounds.

Falmouth Packet:

He told the Packet: "I got the idea from people putting rainbows up and lights. It made me think of Christmas time when I normally dress up as an elf for work - it makes the children happy to see it.

"When school closed and more children were at home I thought about dressing up to cheer everyone up, like at Christmas."

A quick callout for costumes from friends produced immediate results and more keep coming.

Still to make an appearance are Spiderman, a member of the A-Team - and a few more he is keeping as a surprise.

Falmouth Packet:

Steven, who is from The Lizard but has always covered the Mullion postal round, and is based out of Helston Delivery Office, said he had received a really good reaction from customers, adding: "People have been really happy looking out their windows waving and play spot the postman.

"One little boy called out he was wearing a Batman costume and I was wearing Superman - he had been waiting for me.

"Some older people love it and say it cheers them up to see me, and lots want to take a picture.

"It makes me feel like I’m doing something to help bring out a good, happy community and bring positive spirits."

Steven plans to keep going until after lockdown, and said: "If I run out of costumes I'll just start again!"
