THERE has been no increase in the number of coronavirus deaths in Cornish hospitals in today's updated figures.

The total has stayed at 86 since Monday, when it rose by one from 85.

The rate of deaths has slowed considerably in the past fortnight. The total stood at 83 on May 5.

Across England a further 121 people who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 25,387.

Patients were aged between 41 and 98 years old. Three of those – aged between 50 and 91 – had no known underlying health condition, NHS England said.

Their families have been informed.

In the south west as a whole three further deaths have been recorded.

The NHS England figures that are released daily only cover deaths in hospitals.

Earlier this week the Office for National Statistics, which has been collating data for deaths in all settings, including hospitals and deaths in the community, put the overall total for Cornwall at 174.

In hospitals 60 deaths have taken place at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and 26 at the Cornwall Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust.

There are currently 568 confirmed coronavirus cases in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
