Well-covered cows selling to the best advantage.

Leading at 149p/kg was a smart Limousin x cow from Messrs. W.J. & S.J. Hocking of Gunwalloe purchased by David King of Exeter.

At 144p/kg stood a strong South Devon cow for Gwealavellan Partners of Gwithian; weighing 891kg she sold to David King for a whopping £1,283!

On the dairy side, two Friesians from Messrs. R.A. & E.A. Wilkins of Truro led the trade at 137p/kg and 134p/kg, both bought by Messrs. Rapson of Tavistock.

Dearest black and white was an 847kg cow from Messrs. D.R. & B. Badcock of Crowlas realising £1,067 to Dawn West Devon of Hatherleigh.

A good entry of store cattle along with a Special Sale of Breeding Cattle meant a strong contingent of buyers and smart prices across the board.

Plenty of demand for all on offer.

Another super consignment this week of 2 year old cattle from Ivey & Hawkstor Farms of Blisland saw leading four Charolais x steers at £1,090 and four heifers £985.

From the same farm, thirteen big Devon x steers sold to £945 and £940.

Limousin x prices included a trio of younger steers from Mr. A.J. Jelbert of Mitchell selling at £995, a pair of 10 month old Limousin x steers from Messrs. R.A.F. & R.M. Roberts of Gweek which hit £900 and smart young September-born Limousins over from St. Mary’s in the Isles of Scilly for Messrs. G. & M. Bird saw the three steers at £805 and heifer pair at £600.

Nice young natives selling well including an entry of named-sire Hereford steers 10 months and younger for Messrs. V.R. Gould & Son of Mithian Downs to £775.

On the heifer side, a highlight were Limousins from a dozen in for Mr. E.P. Eustice of Fraddam with top trio at £955.

A Special Sale of Beef Breeding Cattle, the first of the year due to Covid-19, saw firm demand form a good number of buyers around the ring.

An entry of four Pedigree Devon cows and calves on behalf of Tresco Estate on the Isles of Scilly sold to a top price of the day of £1,130 with another at £1,100.

A Limousin x cow and calf for Mr. C. Rowe of Dobwalls, Liskeard realised £1,070 with an Aberdeen Angus x cow and calf from the same vendor at £1,000.

He also sold an Aberdeen Angus x in-calf cow at £810.

A Hereford x Galloway cow with 6 week old Shorthorn calf for Messrs. M. & S. Blake of St. Stephen, St. Austell sold well at £830.

Plenty of enquires for breeding cattle.
