It may feel that all you hear is doom and gloom at the moment, so this Saturday the Packet is bringing you a round up of all the positive things that have been happening in the last seven days.

1. Dogs cheer up seals who are missing visitors to their sanctuary

Dogs have given seals in Cornwall a morale boost after staff at a sanctuary noticed they were missing visitors during the coronavirus lockdown.

The Cornish Seal Sanctuary usually welcomes more than 100,000 guests each year to meet rescued seal pups and resident animals, but for the first time in 60 years it has had to close its doors.

Staff, who have been providing extra enrichment for the animals, decided to bring their dogs in to say hello and remind them of what it is like when the sanctuary is open.

2. Falmouth gets new logo as businesses start to reopen

As businesses in Falmouth get ready to begin reopening after coronavirus lockdown the town has a new logo to reflect the hope being felt.

The town's logo, used in its marketing and to promote Falmouth as a destination to the rest of the country and around the world, now has a rainbow added to its original flags and sails.

It is one of a number of ways the town is supporting its shops and businesses.

3. WATCH: Choir marks lockdown anniversary by taking on Miley Cyrus in fun video

A choir has marked eight years of friendship and support by creating a humorous video to one of their best-loved songs.

Despite being in lockdown when the anniversary was reached, members didn't let distance stop them from coming together digitally to celebrate as they filmed themselves singing 'The Climb'.

Members found creative ways to sum up the various lyrics, including someone conquering a 'mountain' in the form of a giant washing pile and another 'keeping the faith' while dressed as a nun.

4. Donation helps Cornish babies in need

Families in Cornwall are benefitting from plentiful baby supplies thanks to a nappy cream company supporting The Hygiene Bank Cornwall.

A donation was given to a charitable organisation based in Redruth, which will distribute the supplies in the community to support parents in need.

5. Siblings get down to the chores to raise cash for cancer research

A brother and sister are making the most of their time in lockdown by helping to carry on the fight against cancer – armed with rubber gloves and dusters.

The duo, whose mum is a breast cancer survivor, are donating pocket money from their household chores to fund vital research.

6. Fundraiser Gabe is 'bringing community together' as he smashes through £15,000

A fundraiser with cerebral palsy who set out to raise £500 by walking 0.26 miles has now smashed through £15,000 and is "bringing the community together".

Gabe drew so much strength from the support he'd had that he challenged himself to go further – a lot further.

He is now walking 2.6 miles on alternate days, to raise cash for disability equality charity Scope.

7. Volunteers doing the power of good for those shielding in the community

A volunteer helping vulnerable residents has paid tribute to the ‘power of community’ in supporting people through the pandemic.

The group she is in collectively looks after shielded families and residents in sheltered accommodation and individuals who are self-isolating in remote locations.

They have also set up a community pantry in the town for anyone who needs help with getting food.
