TWO men in their 20s were assaulted during a protest in Penzance yesterday, police have confirmed.

Devon and Cornwall Police told the Packet that officers were called to Causewayhead in Penzance at around 2.30pm on Sunday, June 7, after a report of a fight breaking out during a protest in the town.

A spokesperson for the force said there had been "a report of a fight which had broken out during the Black Lives Matter protest."

She added: "Police are investigating the assault on two men in their 20s.

"Any witnesses or anyone with any mobile phone footage of the incident is asked to contact police on 101 or via email 101@dc.police.uk, quoting crime reference CR/045441/20."

Dr Misri Dey, who organised a series of protests in Cornwall yesterday, in Penzance, Falmouth, Mousehole and Tuckingmill Valley Park, said they were not Black Lives Matter events but independently organised. 

They were organised by Dr Dey supported by the Labour Party in Truro and Falmouth and Camborne Redruth and Hayle.
