THERE have now been no coronavirus deaths in Cornwall's hospitals for a week – but the overall total has risen.

Tuesday's NHS England figures show that the total number of people to have lost their lives in hospitals remains at 90, where it has been since last Tuesday, June 2.

In all, 64 people have died at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and 26 at hospitals run by the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

However, the latest Office for National Statistics totals, which include deaths in hospitals, care homes and the wider community, have been updated to 198, having stood at 192 in the previous update a week ago.

One of the 198 was on the Isles of Scilly.

The latest ONS figures relate to all deaths that occurred between May 23 and May 29 but were registered up to June 6, while the daily NHS England updates only cover deaths in hospitals.

Across England, a further 129 people who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 27,619.

Patients were aged between 26 and 100 years old. Three patients, aged between 78 and 93, had no known underlying health conditions, NHS England said.

Their families have been informed.

In the south west as a whole, two new deaths have been confirmed.

To date there have been 582 confirmed coronavirus cases in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
