Budget supermarket chain Lidl has revealed that it wants to open eight new supermarket stores in Cornwall.

The German-owned retailer has rapidly expanded the number of its branches in recent years, and the company shows no signs of slowing down in the coming months and years.

In an updated list of "desired locations" for spring 2020, there are seven sites in Cornwall that it says it would like to open new stores in.

These include Falmouth, Camborne, Redruth, Truro and St Ives.

Information on Lidl's website suggests that these stores would be in addition to the existing branches, some of which are already in nearby locations.

There is currently a Lidl store at Ponsharden, between Penryn and Falmouth, as well as at Pool, close to Redruth.

Lidl has since confirmed to the Packet that these would be additional locations.

Other Lidl stores already built in Cornwall include Helston, Penzance and Hayle.

According to details published on Lidl's website, bosses at the supermarket say they are looking to "double their portfolio", with freehold, leasehold or long leasehold opportunities sought in a large number of places nationwide.

Their ideal site has been described as either in town or out of town, with a main road frontage, easy access and strong pedestrian or traffic flow.

The company also has an option to convert existing buildings into a Lidl store,

It's worth pointing out that each of the locations below are not confirmed, but they do represent a rough idea of where the chain is hoping to expand across the county.
