CORNWALL and the Isles of Scilly have now gone two weeks without a coronavirus-related death in hospitals.

The last increase in the death toll, according to NHS England figures, was on Tuesday, June 2.

Today's update shows that the figure of 90 remains the same.

Of those, 64 lives have been lost at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust and 26 at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

However, the daily NHS England figures only cover deaths in hospitals.

Office for National Statistics figures, which cover deaths in all settings – including hospitals, care homes and the wider community – show 203 deaths registered in Cornwall, an increase of five since last Tuesday's update.

The figures for week 23, published today, relate to all deaths that occurred between May 30 and June 5 but were registered up to June 13.

Today's NHS England figures show that, across England, a further 79 people who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 28,061.

Patients were aged between 35 and 98 years old. Eight patients, aged between 35 and 92, had no known underlying health conditions.

Their families have been informed.

In the south west as a whole two new deaths were confirmed.

As of Monday night, there have been 591 confirmed coronavirus cases in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, out of a population of 571,802.

Note: We have decided, with two weeks having thankfully now passed since the last coronavirus death in Cornwall's hospitals, not to report daily updates from now on. We will publish stories if the figure increases and we will continue to publish the weekly ONS updates as well.
