A former church in Penzance being sold by Prince Charles’ Duchy of Cornwall has fetched more than double its freehold guide price at auction.
Located in Clarence Street, the former St Paul’s Church went for £112,000 when the virtual gavel fell – more than twice its freehold guide price of £50,000.
Senior auction appraiser David Henwood said: “This was an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire a character church, and it didn’t disappoint.
“There was strong bidding before it eventually achieved a sale price more than double its freehold guide.
“The new owner may consider a range of schemes, not least an eye-catching Grand Designs style home subject to all of the necessary consents.”

The former church was among the lots in the fourth auction of 2020 by the regional land and property auctioneers Clive Emson on Thursday June 18, which was held solely online.
The church was one of 83 lots, the largest online auction since the firm was established 31 years ago.
