TODAY is the 100th day since Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the coronavirus lockdown on March 23.

All aspects of life as we know it have been affected by Covid-19, and sport in Cornwall is no different.

Here is a timeline of how local sport has been impacted by the coronavirus this year.

 

March 7: Wendron United, Porthleven, Penryn Athletic, Camborne RFC and Falmouth RFC play final matches of season

March 11: Falmouth Town and Helston Athletic play final matches of season

March 13: Several football leagues – including the SWPL – suspended across England

March 14: A handful of St Piran League and Trelawny League games are played, while Cornish Pirates, Redruth, Penryn and Truro play final matches of season

March 16: All sport suspended across England

March 20: RFU confirms end of 2019/20 rugby season

March 23: CONIFA World Football Cup, in which Kernow Football Alliance were due to compete, is postponed

March 26: All leagues at steps three to six of National League System declared null and void

March 30: West Clubs Women’s Hockey League season comes to an end, with Falmouth leading Premier Division 2B

April 3: Final positions in rugby divisions determined by a best playing record formula

April 15: Hockey leagues to be determined by percentage points method, ensuring Falmouth’s second title and promotion in three years

April 18: Cornwall Cricket League season due to have begun

May 7: Pitch Preparation Fund launched to help struggling football clubs maintain grounds

May 13: Golf courses permitted to reopen in England, while all sport can be played with one individual provided social distancing is met

June 1: Groups of up to six able to exercise together with social distancing. Elite sport is able to resume behind closed doors

June 2: England Hockey publishes a roadmap of how it intends to restart competition

June 5: RFU publishes roadmap for return of grassroots rugby

June 10: ECB publishes roadmap for return of recreational cricket

June 19: FA discusses 2020/21 season with non-league divisions, with a September start currently favoured

June 19: ECB encourages leagues to begin preparing for return to competition

June 23: ECB still optimistic for return “on or around July 4” despite Boris Johnson calling cricket ball “a vector of disease”

June 27: RFU announces plan to split rugby leagues into regional conferences for 2020/21 season

June 27: Cornwall Cricket League says formal league season “almost certainly cannot now be arranged”

June 29: Club Preparation Fund launched to help football clubs become Covid-secure ahead of return to play
