Camborne Academy (CSIA) has been celebrating the Class of 2020 with a yearbook and dedications from teachers.

Over the period of a week, each student in Year 11 enjoyed distanced celebrations to mark the end of Year 11 with many staff sharing heartfelt messages to the students.

“The celebrations were launched with a personalised, compilation video shared on our school’s Facebook page, spreading pride, joy and community spirit for the Class of 2020 – it’s already had over 8,000 views!” said Mrs Leanne Hawke, director of Key Stage 4.

“To mark and celebrate their transition on to the next stage of their lives, we also created a special 2020 Yearbook for all students and held tutor group visits every day last week, inviting students into school in small groups for mini socially distanced celebrations. For months, students have been collating their favourite memories from school and staff have been writing personal messages and memories to their students.”

Assistant principal at CSIA, Rachel Trevarthen, said, “Our students worked incredibly hard to prepare for their final GCSE examinations.

"Our students have truly incredible ambitions and we have been so impressed by their ability to overcome the challenges they face, and their continued focus as they prepare for their VI Form Academy courses!

"We wanted to celebrate their incredible, personal achievements and hope our Yearbook is something that they can really cherish. We wanted them to know that we are thinking of them and are still here supporting them.”

The CSIA teaching community have been supporting all year groups while the school has been closed during the lockdown, with remote learning and online activities.

“It was fantastic to see our students again collecting their books, to celebrate the incredible collection of memories,” said Mrs Hawke.

“Their achievements have been brilliant; they are bright, funny and every single student holds so much potential. We wanted to do something for the class of 2020, with our usual celebrations falling victim to the nationwide Covid-19 emergency.”

Miss Ward, Tutor of 11E, said “It has been a pleasure to see our students all grow into young adults and develop their own unique personalities. We wish them all the best for the next chapter in their lives.”

As well as a Yearbook, staff produced a video compilation using the song 'Dance Monkey' by Tones. Staff demonstrated their dancing skills and involved their families and pets to create a memorable film for students.

Students can order their yearbook on ParentPay before July 10.
