A crash involving multiple boats last night saw police being called to a beach between Falmouth and Truro.

The incident took place at Loe Beach, Feock and allegedly followed an "altercation" between members of a group that had been drinking alcohol.

One person also had to be helped from the water by a member of the public.

Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team received the initial page, at 9.45pm, following reports of a boat collision.

A spokesperson said: "On scene it was found that a vessel had been in collision with several other boats in the moorings off the beach.

"There had been a person in the water who’d be assisted by a member of the public before we arrived."

Team members carried out a short search along the shoreline and spoke to witnesses who had seen what had happened, which led to police being contacted.

The coastguard spokesperson added: "Devon and Cornwall Police were requested to attend to speak to the persons involved as it was apparent there had been an altercation of some sort and that several of the group had consumed a lot of alcohol."

Falmouth Lifeboat was also sent for, to help the remaining people back to shore, but it was subsequently found they had made it back in a small tender as the inshore lifeboat arrived.

"They carried out a sweep of the area to check for further casualties and made the vessel in question safe on the mooring.

"Once complete, we stood down and returned to station around midnight," said the coastguard spokesperson, who went on to say: "Water and alcohol do not mix."
