The format and fixtures for the new Bond Timber Trophy have been announced.

The new one-off competition will run for eight weeks and will feature 86 teams from 50 clubs, who have been split into 15 groups within four leagues based on perceived team strength according to their responses to a recent survey conducted by the Cornwall Cricket League.

League 1 will be two east and west groups of six teams, Leagues 2 and 3 will be four geographical groups of six and League 4 will be four geographical groups of five and one of six.

In the six-team groups, two opponents will be played twice (home and away) and one of these fixtures at least will be a local derby where possible.

In League 4 in the five-team groups, there will be a ‘cross-group’ game for the teams with byes each week.

Again, there will be two home and away games in each group and of a local nature if possible.

All 86 teams, therefore, have seven matches on the Saturdays between July 25 and September 5.

Semi-finals will follow on September 12 and there will be seven finals on September 19, meaning there will be seven opportunities to win a one-off trophy.

Falmouth will host Helston in the opening round of League 1 West games on July 25. Penzance are at home to St Just and Redruth will welcome Camborne to Trewirgie on the same day in the other group games.

Truro will make the trip to Grampound Road in League 1 East, while Wadebridge host Callington and St Austell visit Werrington.

Matches will begin at 1.30pm or another mutually agreed time and will consist of a maximum of 40 overs per side or a minimum of 20, with the default option set at 40 overs.

In the event of any interruption or delay in the innings of the side batting first, the umpires will reduce the number of overs per innings by one over for every full six minutes lost.

In the event of any interruption or delay in the innings of the side batting second in a League 1 match, the umpires will reduce the number of overs in that innings by one over for every full three minutes lost. This will not apply to matches in Leagues 2, 3 and 4.

For matches that have reduced overs per side due to weather, light or ground conditions, each side must have faced or had the opportunity to face ten overs to constitute a match. If this condition is not met for both teams, the match shall be considered abandoned.

The tournament has been formed in place of the CCL's regular leagues and cup competitions, which were reluctantly cancelled last month. The regular league season was due to have begun on April 18.
