A NEW adventure attraction opens its doors this weekend.

Via Ferrata Cornwall is based at BF Adventure in Halvasso, near Penryn, and promises "the ultimate high challenge adventure".

As reported by the Packet, it has been set up as a separate Community Interest Company by charity and outdoor activity centre BF Adventure, with all profits supporting its vital work with disadvantaged children and young people.

Offering what is says is the first full Via Ferrata experience in the south of England, the activity will open publicly on Sunday (July 26), with discounts for NHS staff.

Originating in the Alps during World War I to enable troops to cross mountains, a Via Ferrata is a climbing route like no other.

Metal steps, ladders, suspension bridges and zip wires make it one of the most adrenaline-filled climbing activities worldwide.

Sharing BF Adventure’s 60-acre site near Penryn, Via Ferrata Cornwall will "enable people to push their limits as they journey across historic granite quarries in an unforgettable adventure".

A spokesperson said: "With training provided, participants will develop their climbing skills as they traverse across quarry walls over 20 metres high, conquer their fears on the High Wire Bridge, where they’ll cross the quarry on a 70m long single strand of wire and leap from the clifftops on one of the most scenic zip-lines in Cornwall.

"This challenge caters for adventurous eights and over, with various difficulty levels."
