On Saturday he launched a poll to visit one of three towns in Cornwall, with Falmouth, Helston and Penzance in the running - and after more than 2,300 votes cast, Falmouth was triumphant with 873 of them, followed by Penzance with 848 votes and Helston with 670 votes.

His two vans arrived at the Quarry Car Park not long after 5pm, closely followed by the crowds.

One woman who was there near the start estimated that a queue of around 80 people had formed behind her and it was still growing as she left.

Another person said they waited 40 minutes to get to the front of the queue, but that it was worth waiting for.

His arrival at Truro's Treliske Retail park on Thursday also saw long queues, reportedly stretching to up to 100 people at times.
