The number of cases of coronavirus in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has risen by a four on previous figures.

There had been 919 lab-confirmed cases of the virus as of Sunday afternoon, making a total increase of ten over the weekend.

However, as of 3.59pm yesterday that figure had risen to 923 cases in the local authority area and 300,111 in the UK as a whole – a rise of 685 on the previous day.

The number of deaths in Cornwall's hospitals remains the same today though, remaining at 91 where it has stood since July 2.

The Office for National Statistics has also today released its latest figures, relating to the week of July 11 and July 17 with deaths registered up to July 25.

They show no deaths having been recorded in Cornwall in the last week, with the total remaining at 208, the same as seven days ago.

It is also the third week in a row that there has been no new care home deaths in Cornwall.

Nationally, a further 12 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have now died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,303.

Patients were aged between 45 and 99 years old. All had known underlying health conditions and their families have been informed.

There have been no further deaths in the south west as a whole in the last 24 hours.

A further two people died where there was no positive test result but where the virus was documented as a direct or underlying cause of death.

Restaurants, cafes and pubs across Cornwall have signed up to offer 50 per cent off food during August as part of the Government's Eat Out to Help Out Scheme.

Customers taking up the offer will automatically receive 50 per cent off food and soft drinks when they pay, up to a maximum of £10 per person.

The scheme is another way the Government hopes to boost the hospitality industry following more than three months of closuring during lockdown.

The Government has praised the contribution made by new and returning healthcare workers during the pandemic – but experts say action is needed to address recruitment concerns long term.

NHS workforce figures show there were 3,867 members of staff employed at the Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in April, ​142 more than during March.

Sainsbury’s are to trial a brand-new virtual queuing system to allow customers to wait their turn to enter stores from the comfort of their car, a nearby cafe or their home.

Customers will be able to join the line to shop in stores by using a smartphone app, eliminating the need to stand in a socially distanced line outside the store.

A restaurant in Falmouth that regularly received five-star reviews on Trip Advisor has announced it will not be reopening after lockdown.

Owners of The Hut in Quay Street said it was with great sadness that they found themselves unable to reopen, due to the new social distancing restrictions.

The need to separate tables and ensure social distancing means it is no longer practical to continue.
