ALL of Truro's public conveniences have been reopened.

During the lockdown Truro City Council took the decision to keep the public conveniences open on the Green (bus station), The Leats, Boscawen Park and Victoria Gardens, to ensure delivery drivers, key workers and others caught-short had somewhere to spend a penny.

It has now opened all toilets, including those in parks and gardens.

Bert Biscoe, Mayor of Truro, said: "The reassurance of knowing you can have a quick pee whilst you are in town helps many people to enjoy all that Truro has to offer.

"It’s been hard work to get everything lined up to reopen Truro city centre toilets.

"It’s like a lot of things – easy to shut, complicated to reopen. Many thanks to our staff who manage, clean and maintain our toilets – an arduous and sometimes risky job undertaken by a dedicated crew who take pride in their work."

Lindsay Southcombe, chair of the parks and amenities committee, said: "We are so thrilled to see all our toilets finally reopening.

"Kate Bell, who manages the service, is busy working up a plan to refurbish and modernise our toilets. The service is a significant part of our budget each year. It's money well-spent supporting the economy and keeping the town and our major parks much cleaner and more hygienic."

Kate Bell, Truro City Council compliance officer, said: "The fact that we were able to keep four public conveniences open throughout lockdown is testament to the hard work of the cleaning team.

"Billy, Danny and Steve deserve a particular mention for the uninterrupted lockdown service and the whole team is a credit to Truro City Council and our community."
