A row of 14 lock-up garages in Redruth went under the hammer in an online auction and sold for three times the guide price.

The terrace on The Old Tramway, Raymond Road, sold for £61,000 – treble the lower end of its freehold guide price of £10,000 to £20,000.

It was among the lots in the fifth auction of 2020 by the regional land and property auctioneers Clive Emson on Wednesday, July 29.

Senior auctioneer Graham Barton said: “There was incredibly strong demand for this terrace of lock-up garages.

“The new owner, who is local, may decide to offer the garages as individual lettings or even decide upon replacement with a surface parking rental venture.

“Alternatively, there may be the potential for some kind of residential development subject to the necessary consents.”

The garages were auctioned jointly with MAP Estate Agents.

Houses, land and outbuildings in Redruth sparked strong bidding as well.

An end-terrace house at 5 St Day Road with two/three bedrooms, garden, patio and outbuilding sold for £130,000, sailing past its freehold guide price of £82,000 to £90,000.

Sold separately, land and outbuildings to rear of the property fetched £27,500, towards the upper range of their guide.

Senior auction appraiser David Henwood said: “There was significant interest in both of these lots from a variety of bidders.

“Their sales at the top end and in excess of their guide prices clearly demonstrates the continued strength of demand for land and property.”

Also in Redruth, a detached bungalow with mining issues flew past its freehold guide of £50,000 to £100,000 to sell for £146,001.

Penandrea, in Raymond Road, has four bedrooms and is set on a large parcel of land with outbuildings, a garage and ponds.

An extended cottage at 16 Trefusis Terrace sold at £83,000 just above the pre-auction guide. With two bedrooms, it is located close to Redruth town centre.

The cottage in Trefusis Terrace and properties in St Day Road were auctioned jointly with Bill Bannister Estate Agents of Redruth.
