Seven people have been caught apparently trying to smuggle their way into Plymouth's port in the back of a lorry this morning.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they received a report at 7.15am today of people being found in the back of a lorry at Millbay Docks, Plymouth.

A force spokesperson said: "Seven persons - five adults and two teenagers - have been located in a lorry trailer which is believed to have arrived at the Plymouth port yesterday.

"The seven persons have been detained and have been assessed by South West Ambulance Service staff and their immediate welfare needs are being addressed."

Police are currently liaising with Border Force and the port authorities.

Initial enquiries indicated the trailer arrived from Roscoff yesterday, added the police spokesperson.

All seven people have been arrested on suspicion of illegally entering the UK.
