Access onto a Cornish harbour is being restricted for six hours this weekend while filming takes place - and it is rumoured to be for a new TV show.

Mullion Harbour will be at the centre of the shoot this Sunday.

A message has been posted on Mullion's village Facebook page warning that as a result access will be restricted from 7am until 1pm.

Boats and kayaks will not be permitted to launch or use the harbour during this time.

At the same time both the southern and western breakwaters will be off limits to members of the public, while access to the slipway will be restricted.

Full access is expected to be returned to normal by the afternoon.

It is rumoured to be in connection with a new TV series being made by ITV, called Don't Rock the Boat and hosted by former cricketer and now Top Gear presenter Freddie Flintoff, along with The Voice’s AJ Odudu.

The series will see 12 celebrities compete as they row the entire length of Britain, travelling more than 500 miles on the open water.

Freddie has been spotted in the Mullion area today, along with Shaun Wallance, one of the 'chasers' from ITV quiz show The Chase, although his connection to the show has not been officially confirmed.

Also spotted in Cornwall has been retired England and Liverpool professional footballer Jamie Redknapp, who was seen in Newquay - although this could be a coincidence.

People have been asked to avoid the area during filming, in particular so that proper social distancing can be maintained.

Mullion Cove and its harbour is owned and managed by the National Trust.

Originally built in the 1890s, the harbour at Mullion Cove shelters a small fishing fleet from powerful westerly storms.

The picturesque setting is popular spot for visitors and has also been the location for filming in the past.

Back in 2015 filming took place there for an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s murder mystery And Then There Were None, which featured A-list actors such as Aidan Turner, Charles Dance and Sam Neil.

In the scenes filmed at Mullion Cove ten members of the cast set off on a boat to 'Solider Island' - with their first views of the house and the boat's arrival shot just off the coast at Mullion Island.

As there are no buildings on Mullion Island, the 'house' was instead a 3D model, scaled down to make the island look bigger.

And that's not all. Back in the 1950s Hollywood legend Clark Gable travelled to Mullion Cove to shoot Never Let Me Go, directed by Delmer Daves.

The Packet has contacted the National Trust for more information about what this weekend's filming is for.
