Volunteers with The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat were sent to investigate reports of an 'orange object' last night (Saturday, August 8).

After a 999 call received by HM Coastguard last night that an orange object was seen on rocks and above the waterline, the Lizard Lifeboat was launched shortly after 9.30pm and went to Halzephron, Gunwalloe.

A Lizard RNLI spokesperson said: "Upon arrival on scene the smaller Y-boat was deployed from RNLB Rose to carry out a more intensive investigation at the foot of the cliff.

"Mullion Coastguards were also in attendance and guided the lifeboat to the scene with search lights from the cliff top.

"It was soon ascertained that the object was fishing equipment which had most probably fallen from a vessel and had washed ashore.

"Thankfully there were no signs of any casualty being involved."

After retrieving the equipment the crew returned to the station at Kilcobben Cove a short time later.
