HELSTON Athletic's reformed women's team have been accepted into the FA Women's Cup for the first time.

The team, which has been re-established for the coming season after taking a one-year hiatus during the 2019/20 campaign, will play their first-ever match in the national tournament in the extra preliminary round on Sunday, September 6.

It means Helston will have both their men's and women's teams in their respective FA Cup competitions after Steve Massey's men's side were accepted into the Emirates FA Cup last week.

They will make their debut in the competition five days before the women on Tuesday, September 1.

The women's team, who are managed by Paul Parfitt, will discover their opponents for their historic game on Friday, August 21, when the draw for the extra preliminary round and preliminary rounds will be released.

Joining the Blues in the draw are fellow Cornish clubs AFC St Austell, Callington Town, RNAS Culdrose and Saltash United.

A total of 376 clubs have been accepted into the Women's FA Cup for 2020/21.

The competition will begin with the extra preliminary round, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 6 with the Final due to be played on Saturday, May 22 at Wembley Stadium.

Clubs from the Barclays FA Women's Super League and the FA Women's Championship will be exempt until the fourth round proper stage.
