Two clifftop Porthcurno properties are to be sold off to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The two properties going up for auction overlook Portcurno Bay and are a short walk to the beach and the Minack Theatre.

The four and three bedroom houses have guide prices of £300,000 and £250,000 respectively and all the funds raised from the sales will go to supporting people living with cancer.

The properties were bequeathed to Macmillan Cancer Support by a donor, who wished to remain anonymous, as a gift in their will following their death.

James Stebbings, Macmillan’s head of legacy income said: “The properties are an incredibly generous gift and we are so grateful.

"Macmillan relies almost entirely on public donations to provide our vital support to people with cancer, but we are facing a huge drop in income as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“So now more than ever leaving a gift in your will is one of the biggest differences you can make to help people with cancer live life as fully as they can.

"Any gift or donation no matter how small makes a huge difference.”

The funds raised from the auctions will help people living with cancer in the region and across the country.

They will help to fund Macmillan’s vital support services including Macmillan nurses and other cancer health professionals; Support Line; website and online community; and new Telephone Buddies service so that no one faces cancer alone.

In Cornwall Macmillan has 30 nurses, support workers, GPs, counsellors, physiotherapists, psychologists and benefits advisers; as well as the Cove Macmillan Support Centre in which it invested £3.1million to build and equip the centre as a dedicated support to patients and families. Macmillan invested £364,056 in Cornwall last year alone.

The public auction by Kivells Property Auctions takes place on August 23 at 12pm at the Minack Theatre with social distancing measures in place.

Kevin Hicks director of Kivells Property Auctions said: "We are honoured to be entrusted by Macmillan, who do such wonderful work, with the sale of two properties.

"It is humbling to consider all the monies achieved for the properties will go towards supporting and helping people living with cancer.

"Thanks to Zoe Curnow and her team, the auction will be held in the iconic Cornish setting of the Minack Theatre.

"Perched on a granite cliff, the Minack has an exhilarating feeling of being at the edge of the world and at the mercy of the elements.

"Whether we are blessed with sunshine, refreshed by rain or braced by wind – it will be a very special place of which to say 'that is where we bought our home'."

Before Covid-19, many patients told Macmillan that being diagnosed with cancer and going through treatment was the scariest thing that they could imagine.

These anxieties and concerns have not gone away during the pandemic – they’ve been made worse by this crisis – meaning that Macmillan needs support from the British public more than ever to continue to provide the vital support people living with cancer rely on.
