A hospital has urged patients to stay away after two wards were closed due to flooding, writes John Bett.

Heavy storms caused the wards at the Royal Cornwall Hospital to shut after they were severely damaged and people were told to avoid the A&E department.

In a statement the hospital trust said: "Due to damage caused to part of one of the buildings at the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske overnight, two wards have been closed.

"Patients have been safely moved to other areas and community hospitals.

"While staff at the hospital assess the damage, patients are asked not to attend the Emergency Department and to call their own GP in the first instance and 111."
