Police have appealed for witnesses and dashcam footage after a man died in a serious incident on the A30 earlier this morning.

Emergency services were called to the A30 at Launceston, where one person had sustained "serious multiple injuries".

Police subsequently gave an update to say that a man had been confirmed deceased and his next of kin have been informed.

A police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 5.20am on Friday, August 14 a fatal incident occurred on the A30 eastbound carriageway at Launceston, below Hurdon Overbridge, just prior to the off slip leading to the A388.

"Tragically, as a result of the incident, a male pedestrian was recognised as deceased at the scene.

"Officers from the Roads Policing Team, along with other specialist colleagues, undertook a full forensic examination of the scene.

"Any witnesses to the incident, particularly anyone with dash cam footage, are asked to contact the police on 101, quoting log number 0142 14/08/20."

Highways England South West had put out a warning asking people to find alternative ways into the county.

However, the closure between the Pennygillam and Lifton junctions has now been fully lifted in both directions.

Highways England said earlier: "This is due to a Devon and Cornwall Police led incident and ongoing investigation work.

"The closure is likely to remain in place until the early afternoon."

Traffic was being diverted off to the A30 to follow local roads through Launceston.

It was suggested road users travelling from further afield to and from the south west may wish to use the A38.

There was approximately 1.5 miles of slow moving traffic on the approaches to both closure points, with local roads around Launceston also said to be heavily congested.

Highways England advised drivers to consider delaying journeys or use alternative routes such as:

• M5 and A38 via Plymouth.

• A361 and A39 along the north coast of Devon and Cornwall.

The authority added: "Road users are advised to plan their journeys in advance, and allow extra time."
