Police in Falmouth have said they were forced to deal with multiple incidents, including some with weapons, over the course of Saturday night - one of which has left a man hospitalised with serious head injuries.

Another man has since been arrested following a brawl in Church Street in the early hours of Sunday.

The local police team spoke of their night on Twitter the following morning, saying: "Through the night we have responded to multiple reports of alcohol related disorder in the town centre.

"Assaults of varying degrees have occurred and reports of individuals carrying/using offensive weapons.

"Enquiries ongoing to identify all involved."

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police has since gone on to give more detail about one of the incidents, which has prompted an appeal for witnesses.

It is after a man in his twenties suffered serious head injuries and currently remains in hospital.

The force spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for information over a large disturbance in Falmouth town centre in which a man was assaulted and seriously injured.

"Officers were called to reports of an altercation in Church Street at around 1.15am on Sunday, August 16.

"A man aged in his twenties suffered serious head injuries. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition at this time."

He added that police enquiries were ongoing and officers wanted to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have video footage of it.

A 35-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and released under investigation.
