THE operators of a sports bar planned for Falmouth have begun another attempt to secure an alcohol licence.

Permission was given for The Dark Horse to take over the former One Stop Shop at 34 Church Street last year and earlier this year Falmouth Town Council raised no objection to an application for an alcohol licence, which would have seen the venue open until midnight.

However, in March Cornwall Council's licensing committee, which makes the final decision, refused the application.

A number of residents had lodged objections.

The reason given for the refusal was that it would add to the cumulative impact of licensed premises in that area.

This evening (Monday), Falmouth Town Council is due to consider its view on the new application.

The Dark Horse has applied for a licence for alcohol, regulated entertainment and late night refreshment from 8am to midnight, seven days a week, and would also show indoor films and sporting events.

It has also applied for a 2am licence on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve.

Again, the final decision will rest with Cornwall Council.

Developer Skyblueproperties was given the go-ahead for converting the Church Street building into a bar/restaurant on the ground floor and three first floor flats by Cornwall Council in July last year.
