A CORONAVIRUS death has been registered in Cornwall for the first time in a month today.

The latest weekly Office for National Statistics (ONS) information, released today (Tuesday), shows that one death has been registered in a care home in Cornwall.

The latest figures from the ONS, which has been collating data for deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community, relate to the week of August 1 to August 7, but were registered up to August 15.

It means that Cornwall's overall coronavirus death toll has risen to 209, the first increase since July 21, when it rose by one on the previous week's update.

There have been no hospital deaths in Cornwall since July 2.

No further cases of coronavirus have been confirmed for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the latest update.

The figure remains at 957 as of 4pm yesterday, the same as 24 hours earlier.

The rate of infection in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly stands at 167 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 490.

Across the UK there have now been 319,197 cases of the virus as of Monday afternoon – a rise of 713 on the previous day.

Nationally, Tuesday's NHS England figures, which only cover hospital deaths due to coronavirus, show that a further five people who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,465.

Patients were aged between 64 and 86 years old. All had known underlying health conditions.

Their families have been informed.

There were no deaths in the south west as a whole.
