All Year 11 students at Helston Community College have been celebrated for their "hard work and success" in this year's GCSE exam results.

The college said that after experiencing so much uncertainty prior to A-level results, and the subsequent changes to the grading system, it was "a relief" to know that most examination boards would be ready to apply the new grading process for GCSE results day.

Headteacher Wayne Jenkins said: “At Helston it was always our intention to admit students onto Post-16 courses based on their centre assessed grades in subjects, but it was reassuring to know that the students would have those grades printed on their results slip this Thursday.

"However, the last minute withdrawal of BTEC results was frustrating.

“This year we have chosen not to publish an analysis of the GCSE data because it would take away from the fact that the grading system has been very different, and comparisons between schools would not be valid and reliable.

"Instead, our sole focus should be the students themselves, and to celebrate their hard work and success.

"We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved in such difficult circumstances, and we look forward to inviting them to a celebratory prom as soon as it is safe to do so."

He added that he was pleased many Year 11 students would be continuing their studies at Helston Sixth Form and the college was looking forward to welcoming new faces from other schools also.
