One new case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the latest update.

The figure now stands at 964 as of 4pm today, compared to 963 a day earlier.

Across the UK there have now been 325,642 confirmed cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic – a rise of 1,041 on the previous day.

The past week has seen the first death registered in Cornwall in almost a month.

This week's Office for National Statistics (ONS) information, released on Tuesday, showed that one death had been registered in a care home in Cornwall.

The latest figures from the ONS, which has been collating data for deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community, relate to the week of August 1 to August 7, but were registered up to August 15.

It means that Cornwall's overall coronavirus death toll has risen to 209, the first increase since July 21, when it rose by one.

There have been no hospital deaths in Cornwall since July 2. The total stands at 91.

In today's national update from NHS England, which only covers hospital deaths in England, one more person who tested positive for Covid-19 has died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,497.

The patient was more than 80 years old.

There have been no further deaths in the south west.

One further death has also been reported by NHS England where there was no positive Covid-19 test result, but the virus had been documented as a suspected direct or underlying cause on the death certificate.
