Three new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in the latest update.

The figure is now at 970 as of 4.47pm today, compared to 967 a day earlier.

Across the UK there have now been 327,798 cases of the virus as of Tuesday afternoon – a rise of 1,184 on the previous day.

The rate of infection in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly stands at 169.6 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 503.3.

Last week's Office for National Statistics (ONS) information showed that one death had been registered in a care home in Cornwall.

The latest figures from the ONS, which has been collating data for deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community, relate to the week of August 1 to August 7, but were registered up to August 15.

It means that Cornwall's overall coronavirus death toll has risen to 209, the first increase since July 21, when it rose by one.

There have been no hospital deaths in Cornwall since July 2. The total stands at 91.

Nationally, Tuesday's NHS England figures, which only cover hospital deaths due to coronavirus, show that a further 15 people who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,515.

The dates of the deaths range from July 23 to August 24, with the majority since Saturday.

Patients were aged between 27 and 95 years old. All had known underlying health conditions.

Their families have been informed.

There were no deaths in the south west as a whole.
