After more than eight months and not a few setbacks - a global pandemic being up there with them - Helston's long-awaited vintage clothes store is ready to open.

It may have felt at times, for owners Jan Williams and Bee Pellow, as though the opening of The Lady Eve Vintage was taking so long it would soon become a period piece itself.

But just like the dresses and coats for sale have only become more desirable over time, so has the shop - and it's been worth the wait.

The former Pictures and Things framing shop at the top of Meneage Street has been transformed into a vintage boutique filled dresses, scarves, belts and shoes from the 1920s right through to the 1980s - each item entirely individual.

Jan and Bee are also selling homeware, including cushions and lamps, they have made themselves using vintage materials.

Jan said: "There's something for everyone, we hope. We have had the question what is our price range and we say we have got brooches for as little as £6 up to gowns that are £200 or £300.

"We hope we're not going to be intimidating. For people who are new to vintage we hope this will give them a nice introduction and they might be inspired.

"We never expect anyone to buy an item. Vintage is finding the right piece for the right person. Sometimes that can be a lucky strike, sometimes it takes a while to look through and find that 'one'."

Customers will finally be able to set foot inside tomorrow at the start of a special launch weekend that will see doors open at midday on Friday.

The shop will then be open until 5pm, followed by 10am to 5pm Saturday and - for this week only - Sunday, to coincide with the arts and crafts market taking place in the Trengrouse Way Extension Car Park.

Normal opening hours will then be 10am to 5pm every Monday to Saturday except Wednesdays when it will be closed.

However, Jan and Bee will stay open later for booked personal consultations.

Unfortunately social distancing restrictions has meant the planned launch party is unable to go ahead, although there are hopes for a first birthday party instead.

Every item of clothing is individual

At the back of the shop is a workshop area that for now will be where they will carry out alterations and make items, but with a plan to open it up for events in the future.

Jan and Bee thanked everyone who helped get the shop open, not least their partners Ewan Cowie and Tim Staynings, who have put in endless weekends and evenings renovating it.

They also thanked Camborne Joinery for the windows and door, Signs of Good Taste for the new frontage, Jason Hall who fitted the carpet, Paul Coombes for the electrics, Mike Smith for plastering and Shaun Smyth who helped do the ceiling.
