A couple from Helston are turning their street food business into an all-year venture by taking on their own cafe in "a dream come true."

Lindsey and Jamie Hibbert of Bite Me Catering will be serving their famous pizza topped fries and burgers from Taste Cafe at The Homestead Woodland Garden near Wendron, on the site where Slice previously traded.

In news that will no doubt excite many of their fans, the move should also see the return of their popular 'crispy hot cakes', as well a new range of breakfasts, lunches and cakes.

Lindsey described opening the cafe as "better that wining the lottery to us."

She told the Packet: "It's just a massive opportunity for us. We never thought that anything quite like this would come along."

Taste Cafe will be open from 9am to 4.30pm, Wednesday to Sunday from next month.

Lindsey and Jamie set up their street food business in 2018, seeing trade soar.

They subsequently went on to take over Wendron Plant Nursery in July this year, after the coronavirus pandemic caused their food trade to dry up overnight when events were cancelled.

Lindsey said being at the garden centre had been a blessing over summer, as not only did they manage the plant side of the business but also ran the small on-site cafe and continued to serve their street food from a converted horsebox at the weekends, but when this opportunity arose it was too good to pass up.

She said: "I was in a panic as we haven't got space for people inside.

"This has been great but it's not an all-year business and food is our passion.

"Without this though I don't know if we would have had the confidence to go from street food to somewhere like there. This has been a great learning curve."

The couple's last day at the plant nursery will be this Sunday and they are due to open Taste Cafe on October 1.

Shirley Williams and Chris Tredinnick, owners of The Homestead Woodland Garden, said: "We are both delighted that Lindsey and Jamie have taken this opportunity to join us at The Homestead Woodland Garden and we are looking forward to working with them to make it a success."
