A SPEEDING driver told police "my baby only stays asleep at this speed" when stopped by officers.
The driver was one of eight over the limit when officers from the Dorset Police No Excuse team checked vehicles in Iwerne Minster yesterday.
Others said: "Sorry I’m rushing to the beach to get some sun" and "I’m taking my son to football and we are running late."
Officers also carried out check in Charlton Marshall where one of the drivers stopped was already waiting to go on a driver awareness course for the same offence. He was issued with three penalty points and a £100 fine.
The team also seized a car in Blandford for no insurance and discovered cannabis in a car when the driver was stopped because a passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.
Vehicles in Stourpaine were stopped for speeding and illegal tyres.
