A Pool Academy Maths teacher will be trekking 100km across Cornwall to help raise much-needed cash for a heart charity.

Mr Hood plans to walk from St Michael’s Mount, along coastal paths, to Gwithian during the October half term for Little Hearts Matter.

The charity is close to him after discovering a family member’s unborn baby has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a rare heart defect.

He will be walking with his brother, whose son is due in December.

Mr Hood said: “I will be walking 100 kilometres in three days over half term to raise funds for Little Hearts matter charity for children diagnosed with a ventricle heart condition and children born with half a working heart.

“The charity is close to me as my nephew, who is due in December, has HLHS, which is a birth defect that may require surgery within hours of birth.

“I will be walking from St Michael’s Mount following the coastal footpath around to Gwithian and then finishing at St Michaels Mount Inn, Barripper – pure coincidence it is a pub.”

Mr Hood is also selling locally made heart keyrings in the school staffroom for £2.50 to help boost fundraising.
