A fish and chip shop on the Lizard Peninsula has announced it will be closed for the next two weeks after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus.

The Galleon Fish and Chip Shop in Mullion said all staff were now isolating, although it was "confident" that the measures it had already put in place had protected customers.

The shop announced early yesterday (Wednesday) that it would not be open that day due to unforeseen circumstances.

An update was later posted on its Facebook page and the public Facebook page for Mullion to say: "The Galleon will be closed from today (October 1) until Tuesday, October 13.

"A member of staff has tested positive for Covid-19 and as a staff group we have to isolate in accordance with the government guidelines.

"I am confident that the measures we have in place have protected our customers, but working in a confined space as we do means we, as a staff group, need a period of isolation.

"We are sorry for this inconvenience - to us as well as you - and we hope to see you soon."

The shop has received many messages of support and good wishes from customers and villagers since the announcement.

Marion Pollock, from the shop, told the Packet: "The support received from our customers has been amazing and is much appreciated."
