A second shop in as many weeks has become the victim of vandalism in Helston after having its window smashed over the weekend.

The side window of JJ News in Coinagehall Street was left splintered in three separate places following an incident at 10.30pm.

Owner Julia Wren believes that the window was fallen against, which caused the damage.

Julia, who lives upstairs the shop with her partner, said: "It was a really loud thud and then the alarm started going off.

"I think someone has fallen against it. We're normally getting people banging in to it when they're tumbling down the road, as they do, but it's never broken before.

"This was really, really loud. We thought someone had driven in the wall because of the noise."

She is now hoping anyone who saw what happened will come forward with details for the police.

Heading straight outside she saw a man sitting on the wall in front of the Methodist chapel and she particularly hopes he will get in touch, as on the night he pointed out to her the people he believed had caused the damage, but he did not leave his details before getting in a car.

"I'm hoping that it will prick his conscience and he'll come back and say, 'I saw who it was'," said Julia.

The shop CCTV largely covers inside and the town's CCTV camera was obscured by a neighbouring business sign, while the one belonging to a shop across the road was pointing at its door.

Julia has now been left £250 out of pocket from in the insurance excess - after already suffering a series of bad luck in recent months that has also included having her car written off while it was parked outside a week ago, only three months after getting it, and becoming the victim of a distraction theft at thte shop the end of July.
