A number of flood warnings are in place for Cornwall this evening and into tomorrow as residents in coastal areas are told to take 'immediate action'.

Areas on the south coast are particularly at risk, with red alerts issued from Lands End to Lizard Point (excluding Mounts Bay), Lizard Point to Gribbin Head (excluding Truro City) and the seafront properties of Mounts Bay.

In each case the Environment Agency has warned: "Flooding is expected - immediate action required."

Mousehole, Porthleven and the Penzance area are among those named as being particularly at risk.

Peak times at risk of flooding are high tide this evening, at around 7.20pm, and tomorrow morning, at around 7.40am, give or take localised timings.

The agency said: "Flooding is expected over the high tides on Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

"High Spring tides, strong winds and large waves are expected to cause property flooding in low lying or exposed locations on Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

"High water at Newlyn on Monday evening is at 7.19pm and Tuesday morning at 7.40am. Times of high water will vary along the coast.

"Unsettled weather is forecast from Monday afternoon and will bring force 6 southerly winds, possibly increasing to force 8 on Tuesday.

"Large waves are also expected, causing tides to be higher than published, resulting in wave overtopping and sea spray in exposed locations.

"Locations particularly at risk include Mousehole and Porthleven.

"People are advised to avoid low lying and exposed coastal areas. We will continue to monitor the situation and will update this information Tuesday afternoon or if the situation changes."

A map from the EA also shows Praa Sands in red, along with Porthleven and Gweek.

Other locations warned they are particularly at risk include Newlyn, Penzance Promenade, Chyandour and Long Rock.

Further up the coast at risk are Mevagissey, Portmellon, Gorran Haven and St Mawes.
