Prince Charles has put a Cornish church up for sale through his Duchy of Cornwall.

The former St Paul’s Church in Clarence Street, Penzance is going up for auction next week with a freehold guide price of £50,000 plus.

It is one of the 122 lots in the seventh auction of 2020 by the regional land and property auctioneers Clive Emson, taking place on Wednesday, November 4.

Auctioneer Graham Barton said: “This is a rare opportunity to acquire a well-known former church in a prominent location in Penzance.

“It is unusual, although not unknown, for churches to placed at auction.

"In this case the Duchy of Cornwall has instructed the sale after the freehold of the property passed to Prince Charles in his capacity as the Duke of Cornwall.

“The church may suit a number of purposes although potential residential development into a landmark Grand Designs style home may cross the minds of some, subject to the necessary consents.”

It is the second time this year the church has gone up for auction.

It was sold earlier back in June for more than double its guide price, but the sale ultimately didn't go through and it has now been listed again.

St Paul’s is being auctioned jointly with Vickery Holman Property Consultants. The auction is online-only.
