A pensioner charged with murder following the death of a woman in Hayle is due to appear in court today.

Thomas Whitehorn, aged 74, from Hayle, currently remains in custody and will appear before magistrates in Exeter.

He has been charged in connection with the death of 53-year-old Rhonda Humphreys in the early hours of Monday.

Police and the ambulance service were called to an address in Foundry Square at around 2am yesterday and found Mrs Humphreys with multiple injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Detectives would like to thank the local community for their support and are urging anybody who has information which may assist with the investigation to contact them.
