As if the lockdown wasn't bad enough, Cornwall Council will be closing the A39 from Arch Hill roundabout to Treluswell overnight from tonight until the end of the week for essential maintenance.

The whole of the road all the way from Arch Hill Roundabout at Truro to Trelusswell near Penryn is due to close at 7pm this evening and then shut every night until November 6, reopening at 6am each morning.

This is to allow Cormac to carry out general maintenance, gully emptying and surface works.

The closure order will remain in force for three months, although Cornwall Council said the work is expected to be completed by Friday.

Access will remain for emergency services, traffic associated with the works and any vehicle being used by an undertaker in an emergency, to fix a loss of utility supplies or with permission of a police officer.

Pedestrian and vehicle access to residents and businesses will also be maintained.

However, the works are still likely to cause huge inconvenience for drivers trying to get to and from Falmouth and Truro and the surrounding area of an evening, with the route the main artery for drivers working in both town and city.

Diversions will be in place during the closure hours.
