Outdoor remembrance services across the county will still be allowed to go ahead this weekend despite the national lockdown as long as social distancing is observed, the government has said.

Here is a round-up of what is happening locally:

In Falmouth there will still be no Remembrance Sunday parade on November 8, although the annual service of remembrance will still take place at the war memorial in Kimberley Park from 11am, but for invited guests only. This will be limited to 30 people.

There is a plan to film the service so that it can be viewed on the town council’s Facebook page.

On Armistice Day itself, Wednesday November 11, mayor Steve Eva and a small civic party will meet on the Prince of Wales Pier to observe the two minutes’ silence.

In Penryn nothing has really changed and they are still going ahead with a very short wreath laying service in the memorial gardens on Sunday limited to under 30 people. It is expected to last only five to ten minutes.

In Helston the Royal British Legion is expected to lay a wreath in the garden of remembrance at the Grylls Monument in the centre of Helston. The mayor will then lay a wreath when it is safe to do so under government guidelines. People are being encouraged not to attend and if anybody or other organisations wants to lay a wreath they should ensure that they do it when nobody else is there.

In Truro, remembrance events and services are set to be invitation only with the main service to be streamed online so people can watch at home.

Normally the city hosts one of the biggest Remembrance events in Cornwall with a full parade, wreaths being laid at the war memorial in Boscawen Street and a service at Truro Cathedral.

This year the Royal British Legion will be holding a private ceremony to lay its wreaths at the war memorial in Boscawen street which will not be able to be attended by the public.

There will also be a small service held in the Garden of Remembrance at the back of the cathedral which will again be invitation only.

A service at the cathedral for 100 people which was due to go ahead has now been cancelled due to the national lockdown.

In Redruth all the relevant organisations including the town council and the Royal British Legion have already already carried out all their wreath laying in Victoria Park which has been been filmed and is currently being edited to be released on Remembrance Sunday at 11am.

In Camborne the mayor will lay a wreath and the last post will be played at the war memorial at the parish church. The event will be live streamed on the council’s Facebook page.

There will be no parade in Penzance this year, but the mayor and the Royal British Legion have already laid a wreath at Battery Rocks memorial which they have filmed and will be posted on the website at 11am on Sunday.

A national ceremony at the Cenotaph in London will also take place.
