PEOPLE from all around the county have been commemorating Remembrance Day in their own special way as the national Covid lockdown prevented all parades from taking place and severely limited the numbers attending memorial services.

Many people took time out to remember those who had fallen in the service of their country by holding a two minute silence in their homes.

In Falmouth a wreath laying ceremony took place at the Kimberley Park War Memorial where the mayor Steve Eva and other invited guests laid wreaths. The service was led by Canon Bill Stuart-White and the Last Post was played by Bill Bishop as members of the Royal British Legion lowered their standards.

The service was attended by a small number of invited guests and was delivered in line with current government guidelines as some members of the public looked on. The mayor recently had a memorial stone installed in the Memorial Garden for all those who gave their lives for our freedom.

At Falmouth cemetery Councillor Dave Saunby and Cllr. Geoffrey Evans MBE, laid a wreath on behalf of Falmouth Town Council, at the Cross of Sacrifice in the old Falmouth Cemetery. The cross is not that well known and is known as the 'Forgotten Cross'.

Ceremonies also took place in Helston and Porthleven where individuals including Porthleven deputy mayor Mike Toy laid wreaths and contemplated those who have lost their lives in conflicts around the world.

Small ceremonies also took place in Truro, Camborne, Redruth and Penzance.
