Action is being taken to tackle the "nightmare" of heavy congestion caused by parked cars along a road that runs up to a popular beach cafe.

Swanpool Road, Falmouth became clogged with traffic over the summer as visitors flocked to Swanpool Beach cafe and the beach, parking along the pool side of the road and causing traffic chaos.

Reporting to Falmouth Town Council's full meeting last week, councillor Geoffrey Evans told members that he was now looking to get 'passing bays' painted along the road to allow vehicles to pull into the gaps and let the traffic flow more freely.

Councillor Evans told the Packet afterwards: "It was a nightmare over the summer. It's been horrendous. A solid road of traffic.

"There has been road rage up there and everything. It's become really dangerous at Swanpool Beach with parking everywhere.

"We want to get passing bays put in so traffic can just pull in and we don't get a solid road of traffic. It's been terrible.

"We've even had road rage down there.

"We hope to get yellow lines like the ones down Melvill Road painted in.

"Some people have phoned up the county council cabinet member about how bad it has been, and it's not just in the summer that's been very busy."

The yellow lines would be painted to create spaces along the road to allow vehicles to pull in between the parked cars and keep the traffic flowing.

The matter will be discussed at the next highway's meeting on November 18.
