THE Met Office has issued a new weather warning for strong winds this morning in Cornwall.

It says high, gusty winds accompanied by heavy showery rain may cause some travel disruption.

The warning mean delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely. Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer.

Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely. 

Some short term loss of power and other services is possible. It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves.

The wind warning is on top of a flood warning that is already in place for today.

Flood warnings in place for Cornwall, Porthleven, Penzance, Falmouth

People are being advised to avoid low lying and exposed coastal areas this afternoon because of the dangers of flooding.

A Flood warning is still in place all along the southern coast of Cornwall this morning with very high tides and strong winds expected this afternoon.

High Spring tides, strong winds and large waves are expected to cause property flooding in low lying or exposed locations on Saturday afternoon and during Sunday High water at Falmouth at 5:12pm.

Times of high water will vary along the coast unsettled weather is forecast and will bring force 6 south westerly winds, possibly increasing to force eight today.

Large waves are also expected, causing tides to be 350mm higher than published, resulting in wave overtopping and sea spray in exposed locations.

Locations particularly at risk are Perranarworthal, Mevagissey, Portmellon, Gorran Haven and St Mawes.

People are advised to avoid low lying and exposed coastal areas.
