WHIRLWIND Sports are in the frame to go freestyle at this year's Santas on the Run in aid of Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) after it was announced that once again they will be the charity events official partner.

CHSW is encouraging Santas to go freestyle after it was announced that it will once again be working in partnership with Truro based Whirlwind Sports for its Santas on the Run goes Freestyle free virtual event this December.

The charity's festive fundraiser usually sees hundreds of Santas running around Eden to raise vital funds for CHSW and its local children’s hospice Little Harbour. This year, due to the pandemic, the event is taking place virtually December 11-13 and Whirlwind Sports is once again supporting the event as a community partner.

As well as having shops throughout the Duchy, Whirlwind Sports say they pride themselves on encouraging community participation in keeping active.

Paul Billing, founder member of Whirlwind Sports said; “Our family have been in business throughout the Duchy for over 30 years and know how important community, health and wellbeing is. The outstanding work the hospice offers throughout our community is so vital and we are proud to support them in any way possible.”

Over the weekend of December 11-13 supporters are being encouraged to choose their own route, distance and festive attire making Santas on the Run goes Freestyle something everyone can get involved in. Whether it is 2km run in a Santa hat, five miles cycled in elf ears or a Christmas jumper walk, CHSW has a weekend full of festive fun planned.

There will be virtual warm ups, fancy dress competitions as well as ways for local schools and businesses to become involved in the fun.

Whirlwind Sports are running a competition for schools taking part in their own Santas on the Run goes Freestyle. 12 schools will receive 50% off a £500 spend towards the cost of renewing their PE equipment and the 12 winning schools will be announced over the 12 days of Christmas.

Kiley Pearce, Events Fundraiser from CHSW, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with Whirlwind Sports again for Santas on the Run goes Freestyle. They are such fantastic ambassadors for being active and we hope that our event participants will also be excited about what Whirlwind Sports add to our event.”

Those taking part are being asked to raise sponsorship or make a donation to enable the charity to continue to provide care for children and families when they need it most, whether that be at Little Harbour children’s hospice, at home or virtually. Any participant who raises or donates £15 or more will also receive a medal.
